Road Travel Payment Practices Report 2020

11 August 2021•By Alastair Campbell, Founder•Reports

UK Road Travel Sector Pays Suppliers Better Than Average, But Wide Discrepancies Remain

The Numbers

  • Analysis of 264 UK Road Travel companies in 2020
  • Average PaymentCheck Score: 63.5/100
  • UK average PaymentCheck Score (all sectors): 50.0/100
  • Road Travel sector average is 13.5 points above the national average.
  • Top payer: RSA Accident Repairs Limited (100/100)
  • Bottom payer: McLaren Automotive Limited (8.9/100)

What Stands Out

While the Road Travel sector's average payment performance is notably better than the UK average, the huge gulf between the best and worst payers is striking. McLaren Automotive's score of 8.9 is nearly 92 points lower than RSA Accident Repairs' perfect score. It's also interesting that the bottom payers feature luxury brands.

Best Payers

  1. RSA ACCIDENT REPAIRS LIMITED - 100/100
  2. EPYX LIMITED - 99.7/100
  3. LEX AUTOLEASE LIMITED - 97.6/100
  4. AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION DEVELOPMENTS LIMITED - 97.56/100
  5. OGILVIE FLEET LIMITED - 97.4/100

Worst Payers

  1. MCLAREN AUTOMOTIVE LIMITED - 8.9/100
  2. ASTON MARTIN LAGONDA LIMITED - 15.4/100
  3. HERTZ EUROPE LIMITED - 15.7/100
  4. ISUZU TRUCK (UK) LIMITED - 20.3/100
  5. MCLAREN RACING LIMITED - 22.1/100

Regional Patterns

Regional variations are present, although sample sizes in some areas are small. London-based companies average 74.3, significantly outperforming the overall Road Travel average of 63.5 and the national average of 50. The "Unknown" region showed a surprising high average score of 85.6, but this is based on only eight companies, making it less representative. Northern Ireland, based on a sample of only two companies, lags behind at 64.4.

Despite an overall positive average, suppliers to the Road Travel sector should do their homework, as some major players like McLaren Automotive (8.9/100) have demonstrably poor payment records compared to RSA Accident Repairs (100/100).
