Yorkshire and The Humber Payment Practices Report 2022

24 July 2023•By Alastair Campbell, Founder•Reports

Yorkshire & The Humber Leads the UK on Payment Practices, But Cracks Appear

The Numbers

  • Companies analysed: 333
  • Average PaymentCheck Score: 63.7/100
  • UK average: 50.0/100 (Yorkshire and The Humber is 13.7 points above)
  • Top Score: 100/100 (achieved by 3 companies)
  • Bottom Score: 6.7/100

What Stands Out

Yorkshire and The Humber significantly outperforms the UK average in payment practices, suggesting a stronger payment culture. However, the wide gulf between the best and worst payers indicates inconsistencies within the region. A free late payment calculator can help businesses manage cash flow effectively when dealing with slow payers.

Best Payers

The top five companies, boasting near-perfect scores, set a high bar for payment efficiency:

  1. LYNN WIND FARM LIMITED - 100/100
  2. NRAM LIMITED - 100/100
  3. CNR INTERNATIONAL (U.K.) DEVELOPMENTS LIMITED - 100/100
  4. COVEA INSURANCE PLC - 100/100
  5. THE GORSE ACADEMIES TRUST - 99.6/100

These entities, spanning energy, finance and education, prove excellent payment is possible across different industries.

Worst Payers

At the other end of the spectrum, these companies demonstrate serious payment issues:

  1. ASD LIMITED - 6.7/100
  2. SRCL LIMITED - 6.85/100
  3. CARNAUDMETALBOX ENGINEERING LIMITED - 19.1/100
  4. APLEONA UK LIMITED - 20.35/100
  5. DAVID WOOD BAKING LIMITED - 24.5/100

Scores below 25/100 are severe and suggest potential financial distress, poor management, or deliberate exploitation of suppliers.

Sector Breakdown

Sector averages reveal pockets of excellence:

  • Media And Publishing: 89.5 avg (1 companies)
  • Financial Services: 88.9 avg (11 companies)
  • Data: 87.7 avg (1 companies)
  • Digital Entertainment: 84.6 avg (1 companies)
  • Education: 82.4 avg (27 companies)

Financial Services leads the way, with the highest number of companies performing very well. The small sample sizes for Media, Data and Digital Entertainment makes any conclusions difficult. Education sector performs well, given the large number of companies sampled.

While Yorkshire & The Humber leads the UK with an average PaymentCheck score of 63.7/100, the presence of companies scoring below 7/100 highlights the uneven nature of payment practices in the region.
