Wales Payment Practices Report 2023

23 November 2024•By Alastair Campbell, Founder•Reports

Welsh Firms Outpace UK Average in Payment Performance, But Extremes Persist

The Numbers

  • Companies analysed: 96
  • Average PaymentCheck Score: 63.9/100
  • UK average: 50.0/100
  • Wales outperforms the UK average by 13.9 points.

What Stands Out

While Welsh companies collectively exhibit better payment practices than the UK average, the significant disparity between top and bottom performers suggests a two-tiered system. It's also evident that specific, specialized sectors show promise, although data quantity remains a limitation to accurate assessment.

Best Payers

The top five companies in Wales demonstrate exceptional payment performance, significantly exceeding the average. These businesses are:

  1. MONEYSUPERMARKET.COM LTD - 98.1/100
  2. LONETREE LIMITED - 96.9/100
  3. MODUS SERVICES LIMITED - 95.93/100
  4. SOUTH HOOK LNG TERMINAL COMPANY LTD. - 95.4/100
  5. QUIDCO LIMITED - 94.8/100

Worst Payers

The bottom five companies display concerning payment behaviours, highlighting a need for improvement and greater financial responsibility to their suppliers:

  1. FEDERALMOGUL FRICTION PRODUCTS LIMITED - 18.4/100
  2. ADMIRAL LAW LIMITED - 21.43/100
  3. CHARLIES STORES LIMITED - 28.05/100
  4. SAFRAN SEATS GB LIMITED - 29.8/100
  5. ENERSYS LTD. - 30.8/100

Sector Breakdown

Sector data is limited by low company numbers, but early signs are promising. Software recorded an average of 98.1/100 (1 company). Marketing and Sales followed with 94.8/100 (1 company). Sports achieved 93.0/100 (1 company). Education sat at 91.4/100 (1 company), and Data registered 91.1/100 (1 company). Further research is needed to establish conclusive trends.

Despite Wales' average PaymentCheck score of 63.9 being substantially higher than the UK average of 50, the worst payer, Federalmogul Friction Products Limited, scored a mere 18.4, revealing a stark contrast within the region's payment culture.
