Energy Payment Practices Report 2024

18 March 2025•By Alastair Campbell, Founder•Reports

UK Energy Sector Shows Strong Payment Performance, but Laggards Remain

The Numbers

  • Analysis of 197 UK energy sector companies.
  • Average PaymentCheck Score: 79.3/100.
  • UK average across all sectors: 50.0/100.
  • Energy sector outperforms the UK average by 29.3 points.
  • Five companies achieved a perfect PaymentCheck Score of 100/100.
  • Five companies scored below 36/100.
  • London boasts the highest regional average at 82.4 (62 companies).
  • Northern Ireland follows closely with an average of 82.1 (7 companies).

What Stands Out

While the energy sector collectively shows commendable payment practices, the stark contrast between the top and bottom performers suggests significant internal disparities. Also, London and Northern Ireland have smaller samples compared to other regions - this may skew the representativeness of their averages.

Best Payers

  1. CNR INTERNATIONAL (U.K.) DEVELOPMENTS LIMITED - 100/100
  2. LYNN WIND FARM LIMITED - 100/100
  3. INNER DOWSING WIND FARM LIMITED - 100/100
  4. INDEPENDENT PIPELINES LIMITED - 100/100
  5. EASTERN POWER NETWORKS PLC - 100/100

Worst Payers

  1. DUNLOP OIL & MARINE LIMITED - 31.7/100
  2. ENERSYS LTD. - 32.1/100
  3. CRP SUBSEA LIMITED - 32.3/100
  4. CLARIOS UK LIMITED - 34.4/100
  5. PETROFAC FACILITIES MANAGEMENT LIMITED - 35.75/100

Regional Patterns

Regional variations are relatively muted, with London leading at 82.4 and the North West lagging slightly behind at 80.3; these small differences could be due to the different company makeups of each region.

One-line takeaway: Despite an impressive sector average of 79.3/100, the presence of companies scoring as low as 31.7/100 indicates inconsistent payment ethics within the UK energy sector.
