14 April 2021•By Alastair Campbell, Founder•Reports

East of England Companies Significantly Outpace UK Average on Payment Practices

The Numbers

  • Companies analysed: 394
  • Average PaymentCheck Score (East of England): 63.9/100
  • UK Average PaymentCheck Score: 50.0/100
  • East of England advantage: 13.9 points
  • Top score: 100/100 (achieved by two companies)
  • Lowest score: 5.1/100

What Stands Out

The sheer scale of the East of England's outperformance compared to the UK average is noteworthy. The best companies in the region are achieving near-perfect scores, while the lowest-scoring firms are struggling substantially.

Best Payers

These companies represent the gold standard in payment practices within the East of England. Hilton UK Manage Limited and Hilton Worldwide Manage Limited both achieve perfect scores of 100/100, signaling a strong commitment to prompt payment. Randstad CPE Limited (99.65/100), The Active Learning Trust Limited (99.03/100), and Randstad Public Services Limited (98.4/100) closely follow, suggesting a trend of efficient payment within the recruitment and education sectors.

Worst Payers

Sutton Maintenance Limited stands out with a concerningly low score of 5.1/100, indicating severe issues in their payment processes. TUI UK Limited (18.4/100) and TUI UK Transport Limited (18.7/100) suggest potential systemic issues within the travel group's payment operations. Linx Printing Technologies Limited (19.75/100) and OCS Security Limited (19.9/100) also demonstrate substantial room for improvement, revealing a consistent lag with invoice payments.

Sector Breakdown

The Digital Entertainment sector leads with an average score of 86.3 across five companies, highlighting the sector's financial stability or operational efficiency. Financial Services are not far behind with an average of 85.5 across four companies, indicating that payments are typically prioritised. Media and Publishing and Information Technology tied for 79.0 average. Data, although related to IT, has a lower average payment score of 75.4, based on five companies.

East of England payment performance is bifurcated; while the region's average (63.9/100) exceeds the national average (50.0/100), a significant gap exists between the best (100/100) and worst (5.1/100) performers, highlighting disparity in payment practices.
