Commerce Models Payment Practices Report 2021

16 January 2022•By Alastair Campbell, Founder•Reports

UK Commerce Models Sector: Payment Practices Better Than Average, But With Stark Disparities

The Numbers

  • Companies analysed: 231
  • Average PaymentCheck Score: 62.5/100
  • UK average: 50.0/100 (Commerce Models is 12.5 points above)
  • East of England average: 71.4 (13 companies)
  • Wales average: 67.1 (4 companies)
  • London average: 66.6 (74 companies)
  • Worst payer's score: 12.3/100

What Stands Out

While the Commerce Models sector fares better than the UK average in payment performance, the gulf between the best and worst payers is substantial, suggesting vastly different approaches to supplier relationships within the industry. The regional data also paints a fragmented picture, implying payment culture is likely influenced by more than just sector-specific factors.

Best Payers

  • QUALITY SAVE LIMITED - 99.24/100
  • CHRISTIE MANSON & WOODS LIMITED - 98.2/100
  • JUST EAT.CO.UK LTD - 98.1/100
  • JO MALONE LIMITED - 97.73/100
  • EVRI LIMITED - 96.84/100

Worst Payers

  • KURT GEIGER LIMITED - 12.3/100
  • PRADA RETAIL UK LIMITED - 20.3/100
  • AO MOBILE LIMITED - 20.4/100
  • ABB LIMITED - 21.03/100
  • MCCORMICK (UK) LIMITED - 23.65/100

Regional Patterns

The East of England, with an average PaymentCheck score of 71.4 across 13 companies, tops the regional rankings, signaling a potentially more responsible payment environment compared to London's 66.6 across 74 companies, despite London having a higher concentration of businesses in the sector. The limited sample size from Wales and the South West may skew their respective averages, making it difficult to draw firm conclusions.

Need to chase an invoice? Use our late payment calculator

The Commerce Models sector shows mixed results, with the best payers achieving scores nearly eight times higher than the worst, highlighting the critical importance of due diligence when selecting partners and clients.
